Animal Control

Welcome to the Ingham County Animal Shelter!

600 Buhl Street, Mason MI 48854

If you are looking to adopt a pet, volunteer, or help the animals with a donation, you are in the right place. We have over a hundred animals available for adoption, numerous volunteer opportunities, and many donation ideas. You can also find information on dog licenses, search for a lost pet or find out what our very own Animal Cops are doing to save lives.

For guests at the shelter: We are following Ingham County Health Departments COVID-19 precaution protocols. Visitors, volunteers, and Staff will be wearing masks in common areas. Hand sanitizer is available as well. Only visitors who are interested in adoption will be allowed to visit with animals to keep capacity in rooms to safe numbers. You will be asked to fill out an adoption pre-screening form upon your arrival to our adoption center. Thank you for your understanding as we keep the safety of the public in mind for new operations.

full on cats
The shelter has received a large influx of cats.
With limited shelter staffing, we are currently on restricted cat intake to ensure care for the cats already admitted.
Please call 517-676-8370 for information on when new cat intakes may be available.

Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter is following Fear Free Sheltering standards. This program focuses on prioritizing animals experiences in the shelter to reduce things like stress, anxiety, and fear. Something's are obvious (reducing the sounds of loud abrupt noises) while some things are more subtle (limiting who is walking past cages). Please be patient with shelter staff as we try and make visiting and adopting from our shelter a great experience for you and your family, while protecting the animals on our care from anxiety.

Please join us for a Volunteer Orientation once Shelter Activities are able to resume.

Ingham County Animal Control Officers were honored to be part of the service memorialized Monroe County ACO Darrian Young who was killed on duty June 4th, 2020. Animal Control Officers are on the road every single day, protecting the public, and animals they care for. ICACS supports ACO Young's family (two legged and 4 legged) in their grief, and offers support to all ACO's on the road doing their duty to the public.

Our shelter is in need of dog and cat food! We prefer to feed our animals Purina One, but any brand is appreciated!

There are many great ways to help our shelter:
